Meet Jeff: The Man Behind The Workbench

Jeff Griffy has been around the music scene in St. Louis for over 20 years and has had a love for stringed instruments since first picking up a guitar at the age of 10. Having worked many years in a local music store, Jeff has experience in high end guitar manufacturers and dealing with repairs/setups. Jeff toured nationally with Rounder Recording Artist David Davis and the Warrior River Boys throughout the early 2000's. He was a founding member of the St. Louis based bluegrass band, The Mississippi Sawyers after which, he took a break from the music scene to focus on his family. The Workbench was officially formed in 2020, and as a dedicated bluegrass musician, Jeff has geared The Workbench to specialize in the setup and repair of bluegrass instruments.

About The Workbench

Stringed Instrument Services

INSTRUMENT REFRET

With any well-loved instrument, normal wear and tear takes place. One of the most common areas of your instrument to wear out are your frets!

BASIC SETUP

Unfortunately, new instruments (and used ones too) typically won't leave the factory or store fully set up and ready to play. Some minor tweaking of string height and the truss rod can make an instrument feel and play much easier!

ORCHESTRAL STRING INSTRUMENTS

For orchestra instruments to remain open with rich, even tones, sometimes they require adjustments to the sound post or bass bar, fingerboard planing, or bridge lowering.

Feedback from Friends of The Workbench

"I had Jeff do some fret work and other setup for me on my banjo. I recommend him highly. He did a fantastic job. Thanks again Jeff!"

Bill C. Belleville, IL

"My strat is so much more fun to play now that it's had a quality setup with fret leveling/crowning. I've been putting it through it's paces and it's the first time since owning it that Ive really wanted to pick it up and play it over other guitars in my collection!"
