60’s Gibson Hummingbird

This 1960’s Gibson Hummingbird came into the shop missing it’s original hummingbird inlay pickguard, had excess glue residue from a double pickguard attempt, and a hole in the bottom bout from an endpin jack installation.  This repair began with manufacturing a plug out of sourcing african mahogany with similar grain pattern, color matching with multiple coats of aniline dye and lacquer finish.  The real challenge was locating a 1960’s replica pickguard in the correct size and thickness.  After a few failed attempts, we found the one! Some minor sunburst finish touch up was necessary but in the end this Hummingbird was back to it’s glory.
